How to get external data from text files into
Excel 2007: Text files
are ASCII files, i. e. each character is represented by a single byte
and they are readable by humans as compared to binary or computer files
which do not have a one-to-one relationship and are readable only by
computers since they are stored as '0' and '1' and combination of these
'0s' and '1s' is read by the computer program to create the original
file. Therefore, if you try to import a Microsoft Word binary file into
Excel, it will be 'gibberish'. Text files are not prone to viruses and
also occupy less space i. e. they are easy to transfer offline as well
as online. The training video demonstrates how you can get external
data from a text file into Excel for further manipulations.
