Goal Seek in Excel

Goal Seek in Excel is part of a suite of commands sometimes called what-if analysis. Most spreadsheets like Excel take some input (e.g. income and expenses) and produce some output (e.g. profit). However, Goalseek works in 'reverse'. When you know the desired result of a single formula but not the input value the formula needs to determine the result, you can use the Goal Seek feature by clicking Goal Seek on the Tools menu. When goal seeking, Excel varies the value in a cell that you specify until a formula that's dependent on that cell returns the result you want.
Example
Let's say a student has taken part in a competitive examination and he needs to achieve a target of an overall score of 80. He guesses that he might get 80 in Physics, 75 in Chemistry. How much should he score in Maths to get an overall grade of 80 to achieve his goal? His score in Maths, to start with, is 0. First we calculate the average and then we apply the goalseek analysis to get our result.
Let's see Goalseek in action in the training video!
