Vlookup in Excel searches for a value in the first column of a table array and returns a value in the same row from another column in the table array. The V in VLOOKUP stands for vertical. Use VLOOKUP instead of HLOOKUP when your comparison values are located in a column to the left of the data that you want to find. There are many ways to implement the function but the easiest way is explaineded below. Essentially Vlookup works exactly the same way when we wish to lookup somebody's phone number from a directory. We search for a name which is almost always on the left-hand side. Then we move our finger to the right ensuring that we are in the same line (row) and pinpoint the phone number and almost immediately try to remember the number or dial the person while we have our finger on the number. Isn't it? The training video demonstrates Vlookup.
